ADAS Camera Calibration

Modern vehicles rely on cameras and sensors mounted to the windshield to power safety features like automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control. When your windshield is replaced, these cameras must be professionally recalibrated to function correctly. National Glass & Mirror provides ADAS calibration as part of our windshield replacement service — or as a standalone service for vehicles that need recalibration after other repairs.

    ADAS

    What Is ADAS?

ADAS stands for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems — the suite of camera-based and sensor-based safety technologies built into most vehicles manufactured since 2015. These systems use one or more cameras (typically mounted behind the rearview mirror) along with radar, lidar, and ultrasonic sensors to monitor the road and assist the driver.

Common ADAS Features That Require Calibrated Cameras

If your vehicle has any of these features, ADAS calibration is required after windshield replacement.

Why ADAS Calibration Is Required After Windshield Replacement

Your vehicle's forward-facing camera is mounted to the windshield with precise alignment. Even a slight change in the camera's position — as little as 1 degree — can cause it to misread the road ahead.

When a windshield is replaced, the new glass may have slightly different optical properties, and the camera bracket must be remounted. Without recalibration:

    • AEB may not detect obstacles at the correct distance— braking too late or not at all
    • Lane keep systems may steer incorrectly— pulling toward oncoming traffic or off the road
    • Adaptive cruise control may misjudge distances— following too closely or braking unnecessarily
    • Warning systems may generate false alerts— or fail to alert when they should.
    • Skipping calibration isn’t just inconvenient — it’s dangerous. These systems are designed to prevent collisions and save lives. They can only do that if the camera is calibrated to the new windshield.

    Types of ADAS Calibration

Can’t come to us? We come to you. Our mobile windshield replacement service brings the same professional equipment, glass quality, and installation expertise to your home, office, or wherever your vehicle is parked.

    How Mobile Service Works

    Mobile Service Requirements

Mobile service is available for most windshield replacements. Complex jobs involving ADAS calibration may require a shop visit for the calibration step.

    Rear Window Replacement

Rear windows (backlights) take damage from collisions, vandalism, road debris, and thermal stress. Tempered rear windows shatter completely when they fail, requiring full replacement.

    Replace

    What We Replace

    • Fixed rear windows— standard solid rear glass panels
    • Heated rear windows— we maintain the defroster grid connections and verify functionality after installation
    • Rear sliding windows— common on pickup trucks; we replace the full sliding assembly or individual panes
    • Rear wiper windows— we reconnect wiper motor linkage and verify operation
    • Privacy/tinted rear glass— factory tint matched to your vehicle’s existing glass

Unlike windshields (which are laminated and may crack but stay intact), tempered rear windows shatter into thousands of small pieces. We handle complete cleanup of your vehicle interior and trunk/cargo area as part of the replacement.

    Calibration

    Which Vehicles Need ADAS Calibration?

Makes that commonly require ADAS calibration:

Most vehicles manufactured from 2015 onward have at least one ADAS feature that requires calibration after windshield replacement. As of 2026, over 80% of new vehicles sold in North America include forward-facing camera systems.

Makes that commonly require ADAS calibration:
Honda, Toyota, Subaru, Ford, Chevrolet, RAM, GMC, Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, Mazda, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volkswagen, Volvo, Lexus, Tesla, Jeep, and many more.

Not sure if your vehicle needs it? Tell us your year, make, and model when you schedule your windshield replacement — we’ll confirm whether calibration is required and include it in your appointment.

    ADAS Calibration FAQs

ADAS calibration typically ranges from $150–$400 depending on the vehicle and calibration type required (static, dynamic, or dual). Many insurance policies cover ADAS calibration as part of windshield replacement. We provide exact pricing when you schedule.

Static calibration typically takes 30–60 minutes. Dynamic calibration requires a 15–30 minute drive. Dual calibration combines both. Total time including setup is usually 1–2 hours.

While not explicitly required by law in most states, vehicle manufacturers require recalibration after windshield replacement to maintain proper ADAS function. Skipping calibration can result in malfunctioning safety systems, which creates a liability issue and may affect warranty coverage.

A: We strongly recommend against it. ADAS features like automatic braking and lane keeping are safety systems designed to prevent collisions. A miscalibrated camera can cause these systems to malfunction — potentially creating a more dangerous situation than having no ADAS at all.

Many comprehensive auto insurance policies cover ADAS calibration as a necessary part of windshield replacement. We verify your coverage and include calibration in the insurance claim when applicable.

No. ADAS calibration requires specialized diagnostic equipment, manufacturer-specific target boards, a controlled environment (for static calibration), and trained technicians. Not all auto glass shops have the equipment or training. National Glass & Mirror is equipped for ADAS calibration at our service locations.
